Fuel dispenser re-verification in Australia is not automatically required after every repair. The deciding issue is whether the fault or work could affect metrological performance. Site operators should record the defect, repair and test outcome, then confirm whether an appropriately licensed verifier must apply a new verification mark before the dispenser returns to trade use.

Repairs That May Trigger Re-Verification
The National Measurement Institute fuel-dispenser guidance distinguishes faults that affect metrological performance from repairs that do not. It identifies circumstances such as accuracy errors, price-computing faults, certain electronic or software faults, meter creep and downstream leaks as examples where re-verification is required.
By contrast, the guidance lists several repairs that do not by themselves require re-verification, including certain faults involving hoses, nozzles, pumps, motors, keypads, decals or pipework upstream of the meter. The exact decision depends on the non-compliance issue and completed workânot merely the component name.
What Site Records Should Accompany The Repair?
A clean repair record lets the operator, service contractor and verifier understand what changed. Keep the following information together:
- Dispenser identification: Record the site, dispenser and hose or meter identification, including serial details where available.
- Reported fault: Describe the error, leak, display issue, unusual delivery or inspection finding that prompted the work.
- Repair scope: List adjusted, repaired or replaced components and any software or configuration changes.
- Test results: Retain accuracy, functional or leak-test information relevant to the completed work.
- Verification decision: Document whether re-verification was required, who made that determination and the resulting status.
Do not return a dispenser to trade use simply because fuel can flow again. Operational function and measurement compliance are different questions, and both require clear site records. Where re-verification is required, the previous verification mark must be removed or obliterated and the instrument must be tested through the applicable process before the new status is relied upon.
